About Me
Entertaining Young Children

Although it might seem simple to keep kids happy and entertained, the process is a lot more difficult than most people realize. I started thinking more seriously about going through and entertaining the kids in my house, and it occurred to me that we could do better. I began carefully considering all of the different aspects of entertainment, and I was really surprised with how many options were out there. I wanted to start a new website that looked at entertainment from a parenting perspective. Check out these posts to find out how you can keep your kids happy without compromising their intelligence.

Encourage The Use Of Logical Thinking Skills

Rhonda Gardner

The unexpected twists and turns in a private detective adventure book may encourage your students to use logical thinking skills to dissect a character's actions or predict what will occur within a story. Select a private detective book that is adventurous and filled with many interesting characters and clues.

Read on to learn how you can use a private detective adventure book with your students.

Characters and Unanswered Questions

Upon selecting a detective adventure book and purchasing enough copies for you and your students, use the initial reading session to learn about some of the characters in the book and to identify the question or questions that the detective will be seeking answers to, to help them solve a case.

Many characters may be revealed throughout the book, but the main ones may be mentioned during the first couple chapters. At the end of each reading segment, hold a discussion about the information that has been revealed. Use a plot board to keep track of the characters and their respective roles and the clues that have been presented. As more information is uncovered, you and your students can continue adding to the board.

Foreshadowing and Scene Details

It is fun to predict what may happen in a private detective adventure book, based upon the information that has already been presented during a previous reading session. Assign a couple chapters of the book for your students to read independently and request that they use foreshadowing to help them create a prediction outline.

Present some questions to your students, which will prompt them to pay close attention to what they are reading, to aid in predicting what may happen next. Scene details can be indicative about how a crime was committed or how a particular character may be revealed as a guilty party. Reenacting various scenes can help your students understand the information surrounding a crime. After each chapter has concluded, pick out some key scenes and use them for reenactment purposes

An Analysis and Other Reading Materials

Upon the completion of the book, speak about it openly in class. Ask your students which characters were their favorite ones and how they felt about the clue solving strategies that were used throughout the story. If the book is part of a detective series that contains stories that run consecutively, assign the next story in the series. Purchasing additional books in a series will provide the students with plenty of material to read throughout the academic year and during holiday breaks and summer recess.
